Closest is a one-question daily quiz about London. You are shown a famous landmark, attraction, sports ground or venue, and three stations. Pick the station that is closest to it, measured in a straight line. It sounds easy, but London's stations are packed tightly, and the obvious answer is not always right.
Scoring
A correct answer scores 100 points, plus a speed bonus of up to 50 points. The bonus falls away over 20 seconds, so an instant right answer scores 150. Using the hint costs 25 points. A wrong answer scores 0.
The 50/50 hint
Not sure? Use the 50/50 and one of the wrong stations is removed, leaving two. The correct answer is never removed. You can use the hint once per day.
Tips
- Think in straight lines, not routes. The nearest station might be on a different line from the one you would normally use.
- Landmarks named after an area can mislead: they are not always nearest the station with that name.
- Large places like parks and stadiums are measured from their centre.
- Answer quickly if you are sure. Speed is worth up to a third of your score.
Fair play
Landmarks whose names would give away the answer are left out. A landmark won't come up again for about six months, and an answer station won't be repeated within 30 days. Closest is free to play every day.
